PCFL Youth Update
Our 1st Annual Community
Service Lock in was a great success-there were 15 of us, swelling at times
during the evening to 17!!! We spent
about three hours brainstorming on how to market our ongoing “Operation
Dreamseed” project, making posters, an insert for the Bulletin, a group
announcement to the congregation and the delivery of a collection box. We also began our Hot Mama Knitting projects
for the October distribution to survivors of Breast Cancer-particularly those
in treatment at the Luckow Center in Ridgewood/Paramus, NJ. (Our hats will go in bags to patients and our
items for sale will be available in the fall in time for early Christmas
Shopping.)
Please go on the Operation Dreamseed
website for a very descriptive narrative on the program and then give generously!!! This exciting operation is a proven peace
maker and is interestingly similar to the work of Greg Martenson, co-author of
the book “Three Cups of Tea”, the churches up -coming book club selection. Both feature Americans in Afghanistan working
for peace by encouraging education of children. Both men exemplify the true heart of the American people through hands
on, working side by side efforts-the best way to make peace.
We are asking the congregation to support
this Youth Project by donating new or
gently used backpacks, packs of pencils, colored pencils, pads of paper,
notebooks, erasers, scissors, glue packs, stickers, pencil bags, highlighters
etc. these are all essential items and
not very expensive-PLEASE PLACE IN COLLECTION BOX IN SANCTUARY! Call Kathe or Lily for details.
The group movie (Juno) viewing/talk with
Penny Gadzini was regretfully cancelled due to lack of interest and funds. Penny charges $135 for a visit and we needed
a better response than one person to make it worthwhile.
The Youth Group will be participating in
the One Great Hour of Sharing Bread Auction by baking or making goodies for the
sale. You may participate in either of
two ways. Show up at 8:30 on the morning
of March 9th with pre-made cookie dough and help fill the sanctuary
with the spending enhancing aroma of freshly baked goods. Or bring an item or two or three,
attractively wrapped, to be placed on the silent auction tables.
Look for upcoming dates for participation
in a Habitat Project, a visit to another House of Worship, a retreat to the
beach, a spring camping trip to Glen Gray when boating will be available
again. Contact Kathe or Lily for more
details.
